Disabling Components Monitoring

Home  Previous  Next

Discovering and collecting metrics are resource-intensive actions that can create extra workload on the PATROL Agent and the targeted system. To limit the number of instances created and therefore reduce the system resource consumption, administrators can disable the monitoring of any component of a system by using the disableClassMonitoring configuration variable.

informationNote that the monitoring of LUNs and Volumes can be disabled through the user interface, refer to the Disabling LUNs Monitoring and Disabling Volumes Monitoring section for detailed information.

Configuration variables are stored under /SENTRY/SEN_NAP/<NetApp Filer ID for the NetApp Filer> in the PATROL Agent’s configuration and can be managed through:

PATROL Configuration Manager (PCM)
wpconfig (Windows)
xpconfig (UNIX/Linux)

warningDisabling the monitoring of a component (for example SEN_NAP_7_CONTROLLER) also deactivates the monitoring of its related objects (for example SEN_NAP_7_PROCESSOR). Before disabling the monitoring of any component, refer to the table below to know which related objects may be disabled from your monitoring environment.

To disable a component monitoring

1.Add the disableClassMonitoring configuration variable to the chosen configuration management tool
2.Enter the value corresponding to the component for which you want to disable the monitoring, according to the detailed table below:

informationValues must be delimited by commas, for example: disableClassMonitoring=Sis,Disk,ClusterDisk ….

Enter this value

to disable this component (application class)

and its related components (application classes)

3.The discovery and collect for the disabled component is no longer performed and it no longer appear in the PATROL Console.
4.To resume the monitoring of a disabled component, simply remove it from the configuration variable value list.
